Blagojevich attends church (Jan 06 2009)

As seen from Chicago Breaking News
"Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his family attended Serbian Orthodox Christmas celebrations at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral. (Tribune / E. Jason Wambsgans)

He and his family sat in the front row for the services.

Following Serbian Orthodox tradition, Blagojevich handed out tree branches, which symbolize the wood Joseph carried to keep Baby Jesus warm. The branches are blessed by priests.

Rev. Djuro Krosnjar spoke from the pulpit, welcoming the governor and his family and encouraging him to lean on his faith during a difficult time.

Krosnjar said being in public office is like being a "target," but said Blagojevich will receive the unconditional love of fellow parishioners.

The Christmas service ended shortly before 9 p.m. After the service, the governor greeted a long line of parishoners."
